Humans are social creatures who desire proximity to one another. We may not acknowledge the idea. Or renounce it entirely by saying we are merely introverted. But in actuality, we never desire to be lonely or alone. It's when we are isolated, with our thoughts, that we think about others and the relationships we have built. Both good and bad, from the past and in the future. Desolate Crests provide a solitary space, where one can be alone with their thoughts, beneath the crashing waves of the sea that encompass them. The textured acrylic scales on the 3D light study exhibit dynamic crests, offering a vibrant array of hues to observers. The colors illuminated induce a calming state where one can think about these connections. The color purple conveys trust, while blue evokes a sense of calm. Green, however, balances the two dominant colors, providing individuals with the independent freedom to think. With daubed acrylic and film sheets, the ripples of colors illustrate the illusion of submersion under the sea surface. Only to be looking up at the rising and falling waves swaying. Along with the sounds of the ocean, only the individual can fully immerse themselves into the desolate void. Breaking through the surface to the fallacy of life, where connection with others is purely physical, one ponders their affinity with friends, family, or foes. But these connections are what make us who we are as people. We will truly appreciate them when we enter the Desolate Crests.
