The human relationship with light in our modern age is one of compulsory action. By giving pause to our interactions with objects, we can allow for a space to be considerate of our intention. In this way, the "how" of what we do can better negotiate with the "why." Breath of Light is a portable luminous fixture that provides a naturalistic experience reminiscent of when humankind first learned to stoke embers into a flame. Activated by gently blowing into the receiver, a slow flickering swells up from the center source lamp. The care taken to start Breath of Light humanizes both the user and the object. As the user breathes life into the object, its character and the relationship to its user instantly develop. A brief drama erupts as the object flickers to a twinkling light. What remains is a scene of intimacy by way of necessity and as variable as a flame in the wind.
