"Mountains of Light" is a seven-foot long light fixture that uses warm, cave-like illumination to reveal planetary history and personal experience as a process of continual reinvention. The light has a chronological left to right flow, encouraging slow observation in contrast to the speed of modern life. It is also a tribute to old methods of handcraft, incorporating extensive hand-stitching, paper textiles and typewriter text. While the detail is "old", the long, organic form inspired by the Adirondack mountains fits the interior design of modern homes or hotels. The imagery uses light as a tool of discovery, only showing when the light is turned on. The typewriter text goes along with the imagery, narrating the viewer through an introspective contemplation, ultimately accepting the world as an ongoing cycle of transformation.
