Metamorphosis is a distorted emulation of a candle. It evokes the simplicity of a flame lingering above a column of fuel. It uses these physical properties and processes, particularly the melting of the wax, to create something new, to transform, within its own life cycle as an object. As the wax is slowly melted its old form is eviscerated, drip by drip, and a new form is developed. The uniformity and rigidity of the original column of wax is exploded and destroyed as if a projectile was slowly worming its way through it vertically. The new form grows as drips migrate down and build on one another. Through this thermal metamorphosis the wax, and the object, becomes new again.
