Reproduction is the starting point of the cycle of life, a miraculous process that ensures the continuation of all living beings. From the earliest stages of cell division to the emergence of recognizable features such as a heart, limbs, and facial features, the development of a fetus in the womb is a testament to the wonder and awe-inspiring power of nature. Origins is a lighting installation that explores this fundamental process through the use of light and fabric. In this lighting project, the use of multiple layers of linearly aligned light source creates a visual representation of the fetus as the beginning of life, where all living beings start from a common origin. The layers are approximately the same size and shape, with minor variations in their form, symbolizing the idea that in the beginning of life, we are all the same. As the lights gradually change and create a pulsing heartbeat effect, the differences in the forms of the layers become more apparent, representing the unique and diverse paths that all living beings take as they grow and mature. The changes in the light intensity and color temperature reflect the different stages of life and reproduction, emphasizing the cyclical nature of the cycle. Ultimately, Origins serves as a reminder to the interconnectedness and beauty of all living things, from the shared origins of the beginning of life to the unique paths that each of us takes. It reminds us that despite our differences, we are all part of the same cycle of life and reproduction, connected by the renewing and regenerating energy of nature.
