Humans step away from other life on this planet lies in our ability to bend, manipulate, and imitate the forces of nature. The first, and still the most profound way we are able to do this, is through the deliberate creation of light. Light represents human life, for the magic that makes us unique: our consciousness. The earliest method of creating light was fire, which could be harvested from a collection of tree limbs and a spark. This piece contemplates the development of human consciousness, and how that is connected trees. We gazed at their limbs, and then, with their material, we created light.
