Laying in bed unable to sleep, I stared at the ceiling. I noticed the rhythmic swaying of a shadow on my ceiling, the twisted branches of trees outside my window cast by street lights trickling through the cracks. It reminded me of the way sunshine seeps through trees in the daytime, creating a twinkling, mesmerizing sparkle with a similar calming effect. I wanted to recreate that feeling I missed so much in the winter and in a place where it can be so hard to find simple pleasures like that. The twinkling, bouncing reflections created in my project are reminiscent of these memories, juxtaposed by the flashy, unnatural mirror/disco ball pieces used to create the hanging forms. I wanted to transform a space into a mesmerizing, calming experience.
