"Windblown" is a classical lamp featuring a mahogany stained basswood bass formed to fit traditional standards that serves in contrast to the contemporary material of the shade. The shade is constructed from ⅛" extruded acrylic plastic. This lamp shade is cut from an ivory color to mimic an american flag that is then molded over the bulb to give the Trompe-l'œil feeling of a real linen american flag draped over a lampbulb. It is inspired from civil war era paintings and the frequent iconography of draped and windwhipped american flags in andrew wyeth paintings. "windblown" is a modern take on the multi function use of an american flag often times used as a lamp shade, a symbol of liberty, a symbol of oppression and everything in between.
